Something Unexpected

Posted in Announcements, Pathfinder, Realms of Twilight World, RPG with tags , , , , on August 23, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

A few days ago, we received a rather unexpected order.  Someone from Germany was interested in the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting.  Perhaps we should have thought of that, but the website wasn’t even set up for international shipping!  Thankfully he was patient as the shipping cost was added and was still interested when all was said and done.  So now Silver Crescent is officially an internationally known company! (and there was much rejoicing)

In other news, we have begun work on a few new projects.  First and foremost a short adventure is being written to demo a bit about the world.  It will be taking place on the continent of Kesuril, starting in the Illurian Empire.  The adventure is expected to run four to five hours, and will be played for the first time at Comic Quest in Evansville, IN.  The date has not yet been decided, but look for it in the next month or two.

Another adventure is also in the works.  This one also takes place on the continent of Kesuril, though it is much more involved.  It involves three of the Kingdoms of the West, on the opposite side of the Demonspine Mountains from the Empire.  This adventure is being written by Daniel Wood and Daniel Marshall.  There is no announced release date for this adventure as of yet.

Well, that’s all from Silver Crescent for today.  As always, good gaming to you all.

The Return from GenCon

Posted in Pathfinder, Realms of Twilight World, RPG with tags , , , , on August 12, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

Alright, Gen Con has been over for a few days, so I figure now is a good time to give an update on what’s been going on at Silver Crescent Publishing.  We have posted the PDF version of the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting, both in our marketplace and on Paizo.com.  A few sales have gone out already, so it seems posting the PDF was a good decision.

We’re still looking for input on what supplement book our fans would like to see.  Currently we are working on the first of the Master of Shadows fantasy novel series and investigating the possibility of an adventure arc set in the Realms of Twilight.

We are hoping to have the novel out in time for the winter holidays, and an adventure early next year.  Unfortunately we don’t yet have the staffing to pump out adventures as fast as companies like Paizo and still maintain the level of quality we require.

Well, thanks for listening in and as always, good gaming to all.

Realms of Twilight entered in the 2011 ENnie Awards!

Posted in Announcements, Pathfinder, Realms of Twilight World, RPG with tags , , , , on August 8, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

Silver Crescent Publishing has decided to enter the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting for consideration in the 2011 ENnie awards.  We’ve all got our fingers crossed, and with any luck (and hopefully a lot of help from fans) we might get nominated and with a bit more luck and help perhaps we might even win a medal!  Meanwhile we’ll be doing everything we possibly can to spread the word about the setting, so any help you all can offer or suggestions you may have let us know!

The setting will officially be entered tomorrow morning after a short conversation with one of the higher ups in the ENnie staff to clarify some questions.  As I said, please help us out, spread the word, enjoy the setting and as always, good gaming to all.

Gen Con Thus far…

Posted in Pathfinder, Realms of Twilight World, RPG with tags , , , , , on August 7, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

Gen Con has been great so far.  I spent the majority of the day walking through the exhibition hall, and was I ever impressed.  I talked a bit with Jeff Alverez and Sean Reynolds, got a bunch of autographs on my new Advanced Players Guide, picked up a few new miniatures and I even sold a few copies of the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting. That means I only have about 16 copies of the first printing left, so get them while you can.  Remember, only the first printing is numbered and signed by both the author and one of the artists who helped out a great deal with the project, Cynthia Zubko.

I also got to meet Margaret Weis and get her to sign a few new books.  Since I pretty much grew up on her Dragonlance novels, that really was something special.

I did get to demo a few games, including a fantasy tactics game with miniatures that was rather interesting.  It was pretty cool in concept, but it didn’t really have anything special or different to offer from the others.  Tomorrow I hope to do a few more demos, sell a few more books, and over all continue to have a good time.

For those of you who are here with me, I hope to see you out there on the exhibition floor or in one of the events.  If you see me, feel free to stop me and ask me about the world or publishing stuff in general.  I always carry a few copies of the Campaign Setting around for interested gamers to look at and purchase.  For those of you that didn’t have a chance to make it this year, there’s always next year.  I would highly recommend the event to anyone interested in almost any RPG or fantasy/sci-fi board game.  It truly is an experience that should not be missed.

Time for me to head to bed for the night.  Having a baby girl means fewer late night gaming sessions unfortunately.

To GenCon!

We’re leaving for GenCon tomorrow afternoon.  Unfortunately Silver Crescent Publishing couldn’t get a booth this year, however, I will be carrying around business cards and several copies of my book at all times.  For those who are going, feel free to find me there and ask about the world, or buy a signed, first edition copy of the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting hardcover book.

Any books ordered via the website between tomorrow and Sunday will be shipped out on Monday August 9th.  Thanks to those who have supported the company and helped out with the product, be it by playtesting or suggestions.  If everything goes well at GenCon we will be lining up our second printing (150 copies this time).  I look forward to your orders.

Good Gaming to all.

Thoughts on Pathfinder

Posted in Pathfinder, RPG, Thoughts of the Author with tags , on July 20, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

I’ve heard a number of opinions on the rules for the Pathfinder Roleplaying game.  Some have said that it is effectively 3.75 edition of Dungeons & Dragons.  While the basic rules are a variation of 3.5E I disagree with this point of view.  The things that I like best are the way they simplified special combat maneuvers using the Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense.  Instead of having to look up the way to figure out what rolls had to be made to disarm or bull rush an opponent (as  I had to do frequently in 3.5E) is is a simple roll agains tyour opponents CMD using your CMB to add to the die roll.  It is a lot less confusing and has thus far led to more use of these maneuvers in my games.

I also like what they did with the sorcerer.  Basically they took the concept of lineage feats found in the Complete Mage (published by Wizards of the Coast) and adapted it into the class itself.  This way you don’t have to waste your limited feat choices in order to have a character that embraces one of a variety of bloodlines.  Though not everything surrounding the sorcerer is positive.  I still haven’t decided how I feel about the unlimited casting of cantrips and orisons by spell casters.  I admit this makes them a bit more useful when they run out of their higher level spells, but I always saw their limited number of spells as their balance for being able to wield phenominal cosmic power (like Wish and Miracle).

What do you think?

Printing in Progress

For me and all of my loyal readers, a day of excitement is at hand!  The printing of the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting is in progress.  The first printing run is only 50 copies, but they will be numbered and autographed.  20 copies are already reserved!  I will have the books in hand on July 30th and will be shipping them out the following Monday to all those who pre-ordered them.  After that, they will be available at http://www.realmsoftwilight.net/marketplace.htm.

Thank you all for your support and good gaming to you all.

Proof Review

Posted in Realms of Twilight World with tags , , , on June 13, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

I received the proofs for the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting on Tuesday and the review is ongoing.  Some errors have been found and fixed but there are still several more chapters to go through.  The biggest issue is that many of the images showed up much darker than they should be.  But the print shop gave my directions as to how to correct that.  All I have to figure out now is how to enter that correction into Adobe Photoshop.  Once that is done it shouldn’t be long until I can send back the approval to print the books!  From that point they are telling me it will be 3-4 weeks until i have the books in hand.  I’m excited about the whole project and I think it will do well, despite the lack of comments on this blog.

Well, that’s all I have to report for now.

Good gaming to all!

Novels Away

Posted in Realms of Twilight World, RPG, The Master of Shadows Trilogy with tags , , on May 28, 2010 by realmsoftwilight

While I am anxiously awaiting the proofs for the first printing run of the Realms of Twilight Campaign setting, I have been working on the first of, hopefully, many novels.  This one is entitled Into the Night and is the first book in the Master of Shadows trilogy.

This book will flesh out the capital city of the Illurian Empire a bit, as well as the area surrounding it throughout the course of events.  It will be the first true taste of the living world of Relistan with the politics, civilization and savagry that she is today.  I’m looking forward to finishing it.  Hopefully I will be done the rough draft in the next month or two.  From there, it is only a matter of editing and printing.  With any luck, by winter I’ll be shipping Into the Night out across the country.

Whish me luck.  And as always, good gaming to you all.

Finally!

The Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting is now officially completed!  I’ve got the cover all done (it’s even registered to Silver Crescent and has an ISBN number… pretty nifty right? 😉 )  Now all I’m waiting for is a few updated quotes from potential print shops and it will be on its way to the shelf.  I’ve already got over a dozen pre-sold of the 50 book printing, so those of you who want one of the autographed and numbered first print run have to let me know soon or there may not be any left.  Thanks a lot for the support along the way.  And hopefully this is only the first of the series.  Though until I get some good feedback about the campaign setting, I’m moving to novels set in the world.  I’ve got plans for 2 series and am going to be beginning work on one of them as soon as the Campaign Setting hardcover is sent off tot he printer.

Thanks again!
